Events & Activities
Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan reserves the right to alter select activities (i.e., waterfront activities, cookouts, horseback riding) due to weather conditions, including thunderstorms and/or intense heat. Alternative activities will be used to fill in the canceled activity due to weather.
Our prime concern is your child's safety. No refunds or alterations in fees will be made due to weather conditions.
Activities will be altered based on the weather we are experiencing. A change in routine always means something fun like a camp-wide game show or tie-dying craft. In light rain, when there’s no lightning, outdoor activities will continue as planned.
Our first priority is ensuring your daughter’s safety. We have lots of tricks up our sleeves for times when weather changes our plans. We love to sing silly songs and play games until the weather passes. If we experience severe weather at night, your camper will be moved to a building or lodge to sleep. Do not panic if you try to call the camp during severe weather and are unable to reach someone. Our first priority is getting all campers to a safe location, and all staff assists with this process. We will return calls after the storm has passed or once the campers have been settled.
We take every precaution to make sure your daughter stays hydrated and as cool as possible. We make frequent stops at water stations and hoses for drinks and splash parties. Activities such as campfires or horseback riding may be altered or changed in order to keep campers cool. Typically we do not add additional swim times for two reasons: 1. The water is usually fairly warm, so we find that water games with water from a hose are more refreshing; 2. We need to keep the safety of our staff in mind. Having extended swim times during extreme heat puts them at risk for heat exhaustion and other heat-related illnesses.
