Michelle Holmes’ experience with Girl Scouting as a young girl serves her well in her position as Program Specialist with GSHOM. She said she got involved with the Council’s camp programs because she wanted to help girls enjoy the experience of being outdoors and all of the possibilities that has to offer.
When planning activities she said she always asks the girls what they want to do and then asks them to vote on the suggestions that have been made. She said she most wants girls to know that camp is “lots of fun” and they can learn about new skills that they would not have the opportunity to do at home. Her favorite traditional camp activities are sing-songs, s’mores and playing games with the girls. “I am always challenging the girls to do something new,” Michelle says. “I want to make sure they are comfortable in the environment that they’re in. If they’re scared, I talk to them and find out what they are afraid of and talk it through with them.”
