(Lansing, MI --) Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan has opened a new Lansing Regional Center at 1223 Turner Street, in partnership with Lansing Developer David Ferguson. The Girl Scout council is leasing an office suite and retail space in the Grand Center building from Ferguson Development as part of the continuing revitalization of Lansing's Old Town neighborhood. The Girl Scouts have relocated from Holt.
The new location offers a modern, 7600-square-foot office suite and a street-level, 1880-square-foot retail space. The Lansing Regional Center will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The first-floor retail store, offering Girl Scout gear and gift items, will also be open 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month. Free parking is available adjacent to the building. Nineteen staff members will work out of the new location, providing services to girls, families and adult volunteers.
The new Girl Scout regional center is the former headquarters of the Lansing Convention Bureau.
"We are delighted to have found a new 'home' for our Lansing Regional Center in Lansing's Old Town," said Jan Barker, CEO of Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan. "This new location will allow us to serve our girls, families and adult volunteers more effectively and will bring Girl Scouting to a new audience. We look forward to a rewarding partnership with Ferguson Development."
"This organization is a perfect fit for the Old Town Business District," said Ferguson. "For many decades, Girl Scouts have represented leadership, caring for our young girls and adult volunteers giving back to the community. "
"The Grand Center provides quality office space for staff and volunteers," he said," along with street-level retail space, complete with state-of-the-art video and audio technology. This retail welcome center will draw people to Old Town to network and shop in this popular area."
GSHOM will welcome the community to the new regional center with two events: an after-work social with live entertainment from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 13, and a family-oriented open house from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 14.
Ferguson Development created the Grand Center building as a renovation of the former Estes Furniture warehouse in 1996. Ferguson Development is well known for projects that have provided jobs and revitalized Lansing neighborhoods.
