Several Girl Scout troops in Schoolcraft helped to send care packages to soldiers overseas via Operation Desert Angels." Packages included snacks, personal care items and notes of support.

Troop leader Joni Edwards shared the thank you notes from soldiers with all troops in the Schoolcraft Service Unit, which sent 84 goodie boxes overseas last June. All items were bought with a $500 gift card donated by the Meijer's store on Shaver Road, Portage. Comments from the soldiers and marines told the Girl Scouts how much their efforts are appreciated: "The crayons, pencils and snacks all bring smiles to the kids here in Afghanistan, too." One soldier added, "if you have brothers, be nice to them!"
