(Saginaw, MI) -- Wendy's customers throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region love their Wendy's Frostys and Girl Scouts love Wendy's! Purchase of the cool treats has netted $10,762 for Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan, Great Lakes Bay Region, which will be used for camp scholarships. Ken Bialas, owner of the Wendy's restaurant at Bay Road, presented a check for $10,762 to Jan Barker, CEO of Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan and Girl Scouts from the Great Lakes Bay Region at the restaurant at 4305 Bay Road, Saginaw, 48603, on July 19.
"When it comes to Girl Scout camp, the question shouldn't be IF a girl goes to camp, it should be WHEN she goes to camp," said Barker. "At Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan, we believe that financial hardship should never be a barrier to a girl attending camp," she said. "We know that camp is the one place where girls can be themselves and grow and learn in the natural environment. Outdoor play helps girls develop creativity, self-discipline and critical problem-solving skills.
"Thanks to the generous support of Wendy's, camp will be a reality for many more girls in the Great Lakes Bay Region," said Barker. "We want to thank Wendy's restaurants and Wendy's customers for making this possible."
The Great Lakes Bay Region of Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan was selected by Wendy's to receive the benefits of the Frosty Key Tag promotion last spring. Wendy's customers can purchase a special key tag, good for a free Junior Frosty through December 31, 2010. All proceeds of the key tag sales go to local Girl Scouts. Wendy's restaurants in the following areas participated in the promotion: Alma, Bay, Caro, Isabella, Midland, Ogemaw, Saginaw, Shiawassee and Tuscola.
On hand for the check presentation on July 19 pictured were: Morgan Thurston, Troop 50132; Lauren Thurston, Troop 50057; and Elizabeth Hempsted, Troop 53051, all of Saginaw, with Ken Bialas, Wendy's owner; and Jan Barker, CEO of Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan
