STURGIS, MI — [February 4, 2026] — Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan (GSHOM) has received a generous grant from the Sturgis Area Community Foundation to expand access to high-quality out-of-school learning and leadership opportunities for girls in the Sturgis area and throughout St. Joseph County.
This funding will help remove financial and logistical barriers that prevent girls from participating in Girl Scouting, ensuring every girl (regardless of income or circumstance) can discover her strengths, explore new interests, and build skills that last a lifetime.
“With support from the Sturgis Area Community Foundation, we can ensure more girls have access to the transformative experiences that Girl Scouting provides,” said Lyah VanSickle, Chief Development Officer at Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan. “From outdoor adventure to STEAM exploration to leadership development, girls gain confidence, resilience, teamwork, and problem-solving skills that prepare them for success in school, career, and life.”
