Are you ready to take your favorite camp activity to the next level? If you are, then Camp Specialty Program Sessions are for you!
Are you a Cadette, Senior, or Ambassador Girl Scout looking for the opportunity to give back to the Girl Scout Heart of Michigan sisterhood? Join Camp O’ the Hills staff for a fun and educational service experience, all while earning hours toward your Service to Girl Scouting Bar. On Friday night, you’ll learn about the various project options and choose what to focus on the following day. On Saturday, teams will participate in a work day at camp. You will develop teamwork and leadership skills, train on the safe use of tools and equipment, complete beautifi cation projects, and assist with conservation and environmental sustainability work throughout the camp.
Includes the following meals: Saturday: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Girl Scouts will earn approximately 10 hours for Service to Girl Scouting Bar.
Do you love art? Then this camp is for you! During this session, you’ll get to unleash your creativity through painting, sketching, photography, pottery, and more. You’ll also get to help with a group art project to beautify Camp Linden.
Campers in this session will earn and receive an Outdoor Art Badge.
Are you ready to wander into the wilderness? In this program, you will learn the basics of planning and packing for a backcountry trip. You’ll learn and practice skills, including navigation, hiking safety, environmental ethics, outdoor cooking, backpack packing, and water filtering. Then, you’ll head out on a hike to a primitive campsite for your overnight adventure! Here, you’ll pitch tents, build a fire to cook over and enjoy some stargazing. Campers should be able to carry a 30-lb. pack and bring comfortable, sturdy shoes for hiking.
Campers in this session will earn and receive their grade-level’s Outdoor Camper Badge.
Ready...set...SWIM! In this program, you’ll get to spend extra time in the pool while you play games, splash around, practice basic strokes, and learn how to stay safe in the water. Campers in this program should be able to tread water and swim 50 yards on their own.
Campers in this session will take the Water Safety for Kids course through the American Red Cross.
On my honor, I will try-(athlon). In this action-packed session, you train for our first ever Camp Linden Try-athlon. You’ll spend time practicing strokes at the pool, cycling and running on the picturesque trails, trying out some classic camp activities, and then setting your own goals and embarking on our Try-athlon!. The Try-athalon will consist of a 25 meter swim, 1 mile bike, and 1 mile run. This program is a great way to get familiar with swimming, cycling, and running.
Explore Camp Linden nightlife! You’ll get to experience an epic night hike, discover new things about nocturnal animals, dissect owl pellets, and stay up late! You will stay up later each night and sleep in past breakfast by the end of the week. We’ll make sure you have a campfire and a midnight snack to keep you going!
Cadette Girl Scouts in this session will earn and receive the Cadette Night Owls badge.
Paddle your way to your next great adventure! In this program, you will spend your time on the water exploring Lake Louise, Cranberry Creek, the Twin Lakes, and more! You’ll learn about boating and aquatic safety and hone your paddling skills in kayaks, canoes, rowboats, and paddle boards. After practicing these skills, weather permitting, you’ll paddle out for an overnight at our primitive campsite, Paradise Point. Campers should be comfortable in a boat, able to tread water, and able to swim 50 yards unassisted.
Senior Girls Scouts in this session will earn and receive the Senior Paddling Badge.
Bakers unite! In addition to classic camp activities, you’ll have one activity block a day to BAKE all your dreams come true! You’ll work with our Camp Kitchen Director to learn all about food safety in our industrial kitchen and bake treats for all of your camp friends. You’ll also get to experiment with outdoor cooking. Participate in a judged competition at the end of the week to win a sweet surprise!
Jump feet first into hands-on learning! In this ecology-based program, you will catch and release camp critters like bugs, frogs, and fish. You’ll learn about our local ecosystems and food webs, then take a closer look using nets and microscopes. You’ll even get to wade in the water with waders and fishing rods.
Campers in this session will earn and receive the Junior or Cadette Eco Trekker Badge.
Whittle me this... Are you curious about the wonderful world of woodworking? In this program, you will learn all about the basics of woodworking and how to stay safe in a workshop environment. You’ll build your own bird house, design and race pinewood derby cars down our camp track, work with our Camp Ranger to build a picnic table, and whittle something of your own design. When you’re not working on these exciting projects, you’ll get to try out some camper choice activities!
Campers in this session will earn and receive the Cadette Woodworking Badge.
We’ve only got a moment, and all of Camp Linden to see. During this exciting new program, you will scratch off some big Camp Linden bucket list items. You’ll paddle to Paradise Point, hike the Hogback Trail to the Meadows, sleep under the stars in Egypt, and round out the week with our very last campfire of the summer. Are you ready to explore life on the loose?
Breaking the rules has never been so fun! This zany and shenanigan-filled session is perfect for anyone who wants to break the rules. In addition to camper choice activities, you’ll get to pull pranks, stay up past lights out, participate in a flashmob, enjoy a movie night with midnight snacks, and even have a pizza party!
