2026 National Council Session
July 20–25, 2026
This special six-day gathering only happens once every three years and will take place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Convention kicks off with our 58th National Council Session (NCS) from July 20–22, where delegates from around the country and overseas gather to vote on and discuss issues important to our Movement, and elect leaders for the next triennium.
After NCS, from July 23–25, thousands more Girl Scouts (and alums, families, and non-members) stream into town for a multi-day event featuring interactive workshops, inspiring speakers, and once-in-a- lifetime adventures that spark forever friendships.
Before attending National Council Session, each individual elected by the council as a delegate should take personal responsibility for:
- Studying all business items on the agenda (proposals and discussion topics), background information, and recommendations of the National Board of Directors.
- Attending briefings conducted by Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan; and participating in forums and focus groups, as requested.
- Participating in webinars hosted by the National Board (when feasible).
- Obtaining a broad view of the opinions of adult and older girl members from all parts of the council.
- Becoming thoroughly informed on facts about Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan.
- Becoming thoroughly informed on facts about the national organization.
- Being familiar with the contents of the current edition of the Blue Book of Basic Documents.
- Knowing some basic parliamentary procedures.
To be a National Council Delegate, the following requirements must be met to be selected:
- Be a citizen of the United States, a registered Girl Scout, and at least 14 years of age (by March 29, 2025).
- Be available to attend the National Council Session (July 20-22, 2026) in Washington, DC.
- Attend orientation, training, and at least one additional meeting before the convention.
- Serve as a National Council Delegate for three years and participate in occasional National Meetings during that period.
- For three years, serve on the Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan Member Advisory Committee (MAC).
- Report on the National Convention to the Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan membership.

During this event, we will reinvigorate our membership, deepen our commitment to our Movement, and celebrate our successes. Together, we will:
• Engage in conversations on important topics facing Girl Scouts and all girls;
• Participate in an array of educational opportunities; and
• Network, mingle, and renew friendships, while we celebrate the work we do together.
Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan will be eligible to take a certain number of voting delegates, as prescribed by a formula established by GSUSA. If you are interested in serving as a National Council Delegate, please print and complete the application and submit, along with a letter of reference (no relatives, please) and résumé or short bio, no later than January 31, 2025.
