Troop Trips and Activities
One of the best experiences for Girl Scouts is traveling!
Following the Girl Scout travel progression plan, girls learn about the world around them and discover the resources needed to make the world a better place. They get to practice their teamwork and leadership skills while planning their trips together. Girl Scouts strengthen their communication skills, independence, and creativity, build confidence, and expand their worldviews.

For a Troop to be able to travel, the following requirements must be met:
- A Troop Trip Application must be approved by GSHOM
- At least one registered and background checked adult traveling with troop must have completed 456 Field Trip Basics on gsLearn.
- At least one registered and background checked adult traveling with the troop must be current with CPR and First Aid Certification.
- If camping, at least one registered and background checked adult who is not the identified CPR and First Aider must be trained in GSHOM Outdoor Skills.
- A Finance Report submitted within the last 12 months must be on file with Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan.
- All volunteers staying overnight must be registered and background checked.
- All volunteers driving must be registered and background checked.
- Troops must not have a current NSF for any product program.
- Ratios for travelling must be met.
- All requirements per Safety Activity Checkpoints are met.
- Insurance must be purchased for national trips longer than 7 days OR any international trip.
This
form is the most up to date
version of the Troop Travel & Activity Application, please do
not submit any previous iterations. It, and the associated
participant/travel roster, must be submitted for:
Large Gatherings:
Single day troop or service unit events that will include non-members or be open to the public (ex., service unit recruitment event.)
Troop Travel:
- An overnight trip lasting one or more nights.
- A day trip where the Girl Scouts anticipate staying out past midnight.
- A day trip more than 50 miles from the troop meeting place or outside the State of Michigan.
- A day trip or event with high-risk activities.
Please submit the Activity and Travel Application at least four weeks prior to the start date of a trip or activity. Applications submitted any closer to the trip or activity run the risk of not being approved in time.
