Girl Scouts will learn the history and parts of a book, along with the tools, materials, and techniques used by bookbinders, as Cadettes earn their Book Artist Badge at the KBAC Studios.
All materials are included*
This program may spark interest in the following career paths: Author, Paper Engineer, Book Seller, Librarian
Outcomes: D2, D3, D4, D5, C5, T2, T4, T5

Included in Girl Registration Cost:
* 3 hours of hands-on programming with Kalamazoo Book Arts Center (KBAC)
* A lesson on the history of books and bookbinding techniques
* Practice bookbinding skills with projects that include a pocket-fold journal, an accordion book, and a diamond fold book made from recycled materials.
* Cadettes will earn their Book Artist Badge, Seniors and Ambassadors will earn a fun patch.
* The chance to see KBAC's Illustrated Accordion Book exhibition which provides a unique, inspirational look at the interpretations of the accordion book form by artists around the world!

*We will have a variety of materials on hand, but participants are encouraged to bring materials that are interesting to them, that are thin enough to be folded for their recycled materials project.
**The interior contents of the book projects will be completed at home.

Costs:
$50.00 per girl
$5.00 per adult

PLEASE note that this is NOT a drop-off event and proper Girl Scout to Adult safety ratios MUST be met in order to participate in the event. At least two adults are REQUIRED to accompany every troop/group to an event.
